AUSTRALIA

The home of renewable news

The reality is that our planet is warming and the effects of climate change are already being felt.

There is no goal more important than moving towards net-zero emissions. It has long been acknowledged globally that renewable energy is the future. Yet, in Australia, dirty new gas and coal projects keep being planned and approved. This increases Australia’s carbon emissions and takes us backwards. The Australian Government continues to be in the pocket of the fossil fuel industry.

Australians are doing their part, constantly finding amazing ways to reduce emissions locally. Now we need the fossil fuel companies and the government to do theirs. Our news focuses on net-zero and what is taking us closer or further from this goal.

What Are Biofuels and How Can They Be Used?

Biofuels are fuels produced from organic materials or biomass. They are often promoted as a lower-carbon alternative to fossil fuels. Most biofuels today are used for transportation, as they can replace fuel in cars, trucks, aviation and shipping. Using biofuel in the automotive industry is nothing new. Many early vehicles in the United States were powered by corn-based ethanol. Rudolph Diesel even used peanut oil to test [...]

Torres Strait Climate Claimants Make History

Eight Torres Strait claimants have won their historic fight against the Australian Government for its climate inaction. In a ground-breaking decision, the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Committee found Australia failed to take measures to protect indigenous Torres Islanders against the threats of climate change, for example, by upgrading seawalls and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Australia's failures "violated their rights to enjoy [...]

‘Climate Action Is a Legal Duty’: Top Lawyers Warn Governments to Act Now or Face the Courts

Why Natural Gas Prices in Australia Are Unsustainable

Natural gas prices in Australia make little sense. Australia is the world’s largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Yet, domestic gas prices have risen from around AUD $4 per gigajoule (GJ) to almost AUD $30 per GJ since LNG exports at Gladstone, Queensland began in 2015. In the years that followed, east coast gas users also paid prices significantly [...]

LNG Share Price: Should I Invest?

Has the LNG share price caught your eye as an investor? Be careful! The international gas market is notoriously volatile. For a strong investment for the future, renewable energy is a safer bet. What is LNG? The gas industry chills natural gas to a liquid state to create liquefied natural gas (LNG). This makes it easier to store and transport for [...]
