AUSTRALIA

The home of renewable news

The reality is that our planet is warming and the effects of climate change are already being felt.

There is no goal more important than moving towards net-zero emissions. It has long been acknowledged globally that renewable energy is the future. Yet, in Australia, dirty new gas and coal projects keep being planned and approved. This increases Australia’s carbon emissions and takes us backwards. The Australian Government continues to be in the pocket of the fossil fuel industry.

Australians are doing their part, constantly finding amazing ways to reduce emissions locally. Now we need the fossil fuel companies and the government to do theirs. Our news focuses on net-zero and what is taking us closer or further from this goal.

A Closer Look at the Australian Labor Party Climate Policy

The Australian Labor Party has set out its climate policy based on a 43 per cent emissions reduction by 2030. Labor's Powering Australia Plan sets out how boosting the renewable energy sector will achieve this. Independent modelling found that by 2030, the plan would create 604,000 direct jobs and a further 540,000 indirect jobs. Five out of six of these [...]

Fossil Fuel Companies Could be Exposed to “Mass Litigation” for Climate Damage

Climate-related disasters are becoming more severe and frequent around the world. Yet, fossil fuel companies are profiting in the trillions churning out the coal, oil and gas that fuels these devastating events. These disasters cause destruction to countless lives, with the burden falling hardest on the most vulnerable and underserved communities.  In a first-of-its-kind legal case, Peruvian farmer Saúl Luciano Lliuya is suing the German energy [...]

The Renewable Energy Transition Will Pay Back in Just Six Years

A new global study from a research group at Stanford University found that the transition to 100 per cent clean, renewable energy would pay back in energy savings in just six years. In Australia, this full transition to renewable energies would pay back even sooner at a little over five years. The new system would address the multiple global crises [...]

Australian Conservation Foundation Launches Legal Action Against Woodside

The Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) has filed a legal challenge in the Federal Court against Woodside's controversial mega-polluting Scarborough gas project. The ACF lawyers argue that the project should not proceed until an impact assessment on the Great Barrier Reef has taken place. Scarborough is a proposed new gas project off the north-west coast of Western Australia, producing liquefied natural gas (LNG) [...]

Simply Reducing Australia’s Emissions Is Not the Answer

Labor's electoral victory has been heralded as a win for the climate, and plans to reduce Australia's emissions by 43 per cent by 2030 and net zero by 2050 are soon to be enshrined in law. This undoubtedly marks progress when compared to the former coalition's weak climate policies. However, what is missing is the plan to tackle our biggest contribution to [...]
